FAQs Regarding Moving

How long before I intend to move should I get an estimate?
You should get your estimate 4 to 6 weeks prior to the date you plan on moving. You can call us to schedule a free estimate, which will be valid for up to 60 days. We do understand that people sometimes move on short notice, so we’re happy to accommodate people who must move on short notice if we’re available.

How much advance notice do you need before moving date?
If you’ve planned your move during the peak moving period, from May through mid-September or the last weekend or day of any given month, you should schedule it as soon as you have the date to ensure you have movers set to come on the day you want. Scheduling your move 3 to 4 weeks ahead of time should be adequate. However, if we are available we will book your move no matter how little notice you give us.

How much do you charge?
If you are moving interstate we will charge based on the total weight of your belongings and according to the distance we’ll be travelling. For local moves, we have an hourly rate. We can give you a ballpark price over the phone. However, it’s always best to have us come out and visually survey your household goods so we can give you an accurate estimate in advance. What kind of insurance do you carry?
We are fully covered with trucker’s liability for auto and cargo, general liability, warehousemen’s legal and worker’s compensation. Your goods will be fully protected against damage and/or loss and our coverage allows for replacement valuation when requested.

How long have you been in the moving business?
Pikes Peak Moving & Storage was established in 1970 in Southern Colorado and specifically in Colorado Springs. We’re an authorized agent of Wheaton World Wide Moving, which was established in 1945. Wheaton is one of the most respected and among the largest moving companies in the industry.

What steps would you take to protect my furniture?
We routinely use the latest equipment and supplies for all our moves. The equipment we use makes the job easier and reduces the amount of handling your furniture undergoes. We protect all furniture with shrink-wrap and/or pads. During the move we protect your floors and carpet with protective coverings.

How long does it usually take to move?
Move times for interstate moves vary depending how far away you’re moving and how much is being transported. Once we determine how much you’re having us transport, we’ll give you a time frame for the move.

We can typically complete local moves in just one day. If you have an extremely large shipment, it can take two days depending on the level of service you require. If we’re packing your goods we usually pack everything up the day prior to the move. We can schedule additional days if needed.

Do you offer storage should I need it?
We have 21,000 sq. ft. of storage in our own facility, which is at 30 Mount View Lane, Colorado Springs, CO. If you need your belongings stored short-term for a few days, or for a number of months, we can accommodate you. Your items would be protected with padding and shrink-wrap and placed in your own private vault(s). If you require storage near your new location, our Wheaton World Wide network has agencies that can accommodate you there as well.

Am I allowed to pack up my own belongings?
Yes, of course. You can pack up all your items yourself; pack some of them or none at all. We will customize your move according to your needs. We have packing guides to help you as well as videos you can check out.

Where can I get moving boxes?
Our customers are welcome to get any and all packing materials they might need, including boxes of all sizes, packing paper, bubble wrap and packing tape. Moving boxes and supplies can be picked up at our warehouse at 30 Mount View Lane, Colorado Springs, CO. If it is more convenient for you, we can deliver these to your home if you live locally.
